Good morning, all. For today, our focus in on your third genre, otherwise known as the FYS Presentation. We will complete a Group Check and make sure any students who are otherwise "groupless" are placed prior to leaving class.

Hopefully you did! Exam 2 is ovah!

Reminder

  • For the majority of you, registration begins on Friday at 12:00 AM. Realistically, you can add/drop classes online all the way until the first day of school, but this is your best chance to get the "perfect" schedule of your choice.

  • Midterm grades will be visible at the end of this week on SAIL. Realistically, the current grades you see in BB for Seminar and History represent accurate midterms. Exam 2 will not factor into your midterm average

  • If you are concerned about any of your courses within the LC, please talk to your faculty prior to dropping any one course.

  • Your HIST 1301 average is updated an contains your Reading Quiz average with the lowest grade already dropped.

  • Double-check this average and let me know if you see any problems.

  • Reading Quiz #6 is happening on Wednesday, November 7th and covers AEUSH 3.4 "Abolitionist or Terrorist."

  • Your Discovery Log #10 deals with finding a podcast or documentary related to the ideas you are exploring in your Intersections Project. I have included a couple links that might help you get started, should you choose to pursue a Podcast.

  • Listen Notes: Podcast search engine

  • Stitcher

  • Let's you search within its archives for specific topics or titles.

  • You can also just search through Apple's existing Podcasts for options, too.

Today

  • Group Check

  • Let's try to get things sorted for FYS. This is the most current version of everyone's topics. You can see some tentative groupings, but these are very much open to negotiation.

  • We are trying for groups of 3-4 students. If you see a more effective connection for you and another couple of students, now is the time to propose a change.

  • As of today, all groups are permanent unless there is a working issue and someone needs to relocated.

  • First Year Symposium Breakdown

  • Check out this overall document. This provides a relatively complete (with exception of the rubric and PPT template) overview of the work remaining for FYS.

  • Please note that some of this process will be completed in Writing and Rhetoric, as Professor Walker has already indicated in her calendar of events.

  • Between now and Monday of next week, I would like all groups to visit with me at least once outside of class.

  • You can email me and set up a time or drop by as a group during office hours.

  • The purpose of these meetings is to assess the group and how it is functioning, as well as allow you all to ask me any questions you have about the project or events leading up to FYS.

Homework

  • As a group, create a blurb (roughly one paragraph) that summarizes your presentation as a whole. This should include your overarching connection/theme and your individual contribution to the project.

  • Please add your blurb to this document which I will share with Professor Walker.
