Today we will dig in with our first piece of the Intersection Project. Individually, you will work on completing a mind map and share your progress with a small group. As a class, we will answer any additional questions you have about credible/scholarly research moving forward.

The perfect .gif representation of the Intersections Project...
Reminders
Most of you are eligible for Registration at 12:01 AM on Friday, November 2nd.
I strongly suggest that you have at least two rough schedules planned out in advance of this day/time to make sure you are in the running for some of the more "choice" classes.
See my previous class plans for all the links you need to help complete this process.
Make sure that you have cleared all your holds. You will not be able to register if holds are still in place.
Today
Research
As we progress, the emphasis is on locating and incorporating scholarly and/or credible sources.
Check out my class plans from Thursday of last week for additional information about this process.
If you aren't sure how to located these types of sources, come visit me during office hours.
You can also seek help with your research in the library. Librarians are awesome at research!
Map it Out (Stolen from Prof. Flores)
Check out this worksheet. I gave you a physical copy, but it is also online.
Check out this image. This image is the result of completing this worksheet.
At the end of class today, you should have an image very much like this.
This will be your guide for creating your first genre for the Intersections Project.
Drafting Begins
The next step in this process is drafting. You should begin drafting the genre that you discussed above for peer review sometime next week.
Remember, none of you are writing a 20 page research paper. Most real-world genres are a combination of smaller "texts" and highly specific to their target audiences.
Don't be afraid to incorporate visual elements.
Walk around and look at all the different physical genres you are exposed to in a day. Pay attention to your own online browsing and notice all the different ways people/companies try to communicate with you
Homework
The long term plan is to have a completed draft of your Genre 1 to use for peer-review in class on Thursday of next week.
Tentative Plans moving forward
Genre #1 Drafting (10/25)
Genre #1 Peer Review (10/30)
Genre #2 Drafting (11/01)
Genre #2 Peer Review (11/06)
Genre #3 Drafting (11/08)
Genre #3 Peer Review (11/13)
Final Portfolio (12/07)
Note: There is no guarantee that these days will be spent entirely on drafting or peer review. You MUST find additional time outside of class to engage with this assignment sequence.
