Today you will find out your groups for FYS as well as your general theme. You will get to know your new team members and engage in a "team building" activity...otherwise known as drafting Essay Question #1 for the History exam.

Teamwork can be hard...
Reminder
Reading Quiz #6 is happening on Wednesday. You should read "Mexico's Irish Army" and fill out one side of a 3X5 notecard to bring with you to class on Wednesday.
Registration
See previous class "Reminders" for all needed links and information. Please contact me for general questions and/or your academic advisor for more specific concerns.
Today
Group Work 101
ALL members must participate regularly in group activities. This means you must maintain constant communication and develop a plan of action moving forward with your FYS Presentation.
You do not have to love all members of your group. That is not a requirement of successful group project; however, you should be able to respect one another's perspectives and be able to work together to produce a solid FYS presentation.
Should a group member repeatedly fail to communicate or contribute to the project, they can be removed from the group, but clear evidence must be provided to support this action.
FYS Groups
Go ahead and check out the list with the groups and the general theme under which they are categorized.
If you do not see your name here, we will speak prior to the end of class, and it is MANDATORY that you email me and schedule a visit in the next 48 hours.
Let's begin at the beginning...
Introduce yourself to your classmates and exchange contact information.
This should include phone numbers and an email address.
Discuss your general 1302 topic and the specific HIST 1301 connection you have established for the FYS genre.
Now, go ahead and start discussing how you can bring your 1301 ideas together under the umbrella of your general theme.
Sort out a meeting time/place
Go ahead and establish your first meeting time. Understand that while it would be preferable for you to meet in person, there are many other ways that you can communicate. Think Skype, WebEx, etc.
You can also all come meet in my office. I am happy to visit with your group and help you all navigate this process.
Moving forward...
Credible/Scholarly Research
See my notes in previous class plans regarding methods of determining credibility and locating scholarly sources.
This is a mandatory element of your work moving forwards.
Visual Rhetoric
Trifold and PowerPoint
We will discuss this in more detail moving forward.
Team Building!
Essay Question 1
Let's go ahead and get a solid outline for Essay #1 completed.
Feel free to use all books and notes for this activity.
If you have already completed this outline on your own, please review it with your group and make sure it is correct and suitably detailed.
Homework
Continue to refine your ideas for your Intersections Project. Professor Flores has included a timeline for her side of the sequence on her class plans. Keep an eye on this moving forward.
As of now, you have drafted at least two of the essay questions for the History Exam. You have also generated some information for Chronologies. Keep going with this process.
If you have any questions, please come see me during office hours.
Do not depend entirely upon me or this class to generate all your exam review material. You must become self-sufficient in this process.
