Today we start with failure and move forward. Oh, wait, that is everyday for me. Daily writing and group conversation will focus on the readings from NWWK. Once these are completed, I want to give you time workshop one or more of your many different assignments that are in-process.

Sometimes life can feel a bit like this

Reminders

  • Check your holds!

  • They are located under your Student Record on SAIL.

  • If you haven't taken the "Think about it!" online workshop, you need to do so before registration. You will not be able to register if you haven't completed this program.

  • The Spring 2019 schedule will be visible on October 15th. Be ready to plan!

  • The Midterm Portfolio cometh.

Today

  • F is for Failure

  • The idea of failure means different things to different people: What does failure mean to you?

  • What events or people in your life helped shape this definition?

  • How does the NWWK text interact with your definition of failure: Does it support, challenge, alter things?

  • Since many of your plan to be educators, how do you want your students to define failure?

  • In what ways can your teaching practice help achieve this?

  • Group Chat

  • Each group should discuss the questions below based on the readings that I asked you to complete for class.

  • TC 4.0: All Writers Have More to Learn

  • How can you as a writer embrace the concept described in this section? In what ways have your experiences this semester proved or disproved this idea?

  • TC 4.1: Text Is An Object Outside of Oneself That Can be Improved and Developed

  • Why is it important that a "writer" take on the role of the "reader" when examining their own work? In what ways are these works the sight of negotiation between reader and writer?

  • TC 4.2:

  • If you are comfortable doing so, please share your definition of failure with your colleagues. Are their any shared experiences that shaped all of your definitions?

  • TC 4.3: Learning to Write Effectively Requires...

  • "Practice can involve writing in different spaces, with different materials, and with different technologies" (64). How can your own experiences in this class and in college provide an example of the TC discussed above?

  • In what ways has this practice mentioned above been "troublesome" for you?

Homework

  • Read KWWK TC 4.5 and 4.6 for homework.

  • This week's GDD should focus on the readings assigned from this 4.0 Unit in the book.
