Today we will have a visitor, knock out Reading Quiz #3 in a new and improved format, and spend some time discussing in-text citation and References pages. We will also have a bit more of a general Q&A regarding IA#1 if time permits, so start generating questions now!

Hulk likes appropriately indented and spaced References pages.

Reminders

  • Reading Quiz #4 is happening on Wednesday of next week. You will be working with AEUSH 3.3.

  • Don't forget to set up an appointment with your advisor immediately if not sooner.

  • You will be able to see the schedule on SAIL on October 15th.

  • Freshmen will be eligible to register the week of Friday, October 29th. If you have more than 30 hours (are a sophomore), you can register on Thursday of that week.

  • Before you can register, you must make sure all Holds are cleared.

  • One such hold is the "Think About It!" course. You must complete this online work before you can register. Find the materials here.

  • Keep an eye on your materials for your Midterm Portfolio. IA #1 is only one of the things you will need to finalize for this project.

Today

  • IT Security Visit

  • This is an important thing! Pay attention to this thing. Seriously.

  • Reading Quiz #3

  • Go ahead and get out your notecard...

  • IA #1 Citation Chat

  • When in doubt...use your resources!

  • Owl Purdue for all general Q&A as well as samples.

  • Things like Citation Machine and Easy Bib can "help" but should be reviewed carefully for accuracy.

  • CASA or Office Hours

  • The Basics...

  • In-text Citations

  • These are included in the body of your writing. You will use these for all primary and secondary sources that you reference in your work.

  • Check out OWL for samples. Most of the "types" of sources that you are referencing can be found there. When in doubt, try a basic Google search for assistance.

  • Make sure that you include an in-text citation anytime that you include the following: Paraphrases, Summaries, and Direct Quote

  • References Page

  • This is included after you have completed your writing in the template. It gets its own completely separate page.

  • For each author or work that you reference in your body, be sure that you include the reference for that work ONCE on your References page.

Homework

  • You should be firmly in-process on your Research Proposal. If you have questions, ASK!

  • Complete your "Think About It!" activity ASAP to prevent holds.

  • Start brainstorming possible materials that could appear on Exam 2.
