Welcome back. Today, we will clarify any issues regarding your Reflective Overviews, make sure folks are set with the new S&T discussion, and spend some time talking about registration for the Spring semester. Let's dig in!

Registration approaches.

Today

  • Let's have a brief talk about registration!

  • Dates to Know

  • The Spring 2019 schedule will be visible here on October 15th.

  • Registration for freshmen begins on Friday, October 29th.

  • You should also be familiar with SAIL.

  • You can view a degree planner here.

  • You can find out your classification, academic advisor, GPA, and all sorts of other things on Degree Planner.

  • Reflective Overview Progress...

  • You guys should be in-process with at least two of your SLO sections drafted.

  • One was begun in class and the other was assigned as homework...

  • Don't wait for me to "formally" assign more. Work with the document whenever you are able.

  • Evidence

  • Since you have actually spent some time working, I am curious what types of evidence you have been thinking of/referencing in your writing.

  • Who wants to contribute? (The answer is: everyone!)

  • Brainstorming your Goals!

  • Part of this Reflective Overview has to do with goals you have for the future. Remember, goals can be connected with the material for the course, but you can also reference "big picture" goals that you have for your academic life as whole.

  • Start by listing goals. This is a form of brainstorming. Your list can include ANYTHING (that isn't illegal).

  • You will revise this list as we continue...

  • Now, review your list...which of these can we eliminate as being not appropriate for the Reflective Overview

  • Highlight those or mark them out in some way. Don't just delete them.

  • You might also consider the other materials you will be discussing in your Reflective Overview. Can you tie these goals to that writing?

  • Next, organize the goals in terms of importance to you. What goals are most important to you? What about least important?

  • The final step will be to select the specific goals you wish to discuss as part of this assignment and build your paragraph(s) around those goals.

Homework

  • Complete your freewrite for S&T #2 and submit it to Blackboard prior to the start of class.

  • Make sure your presentation meets the 3-5 minute requirements and review the assignment itself here.
