Welcome to October, everyone. We are in the countdown phase for our Midterm Portfolio, so brace yourselves and draft/revise/repeat! Today, we will spend a moment clarifying our area of interest (AoI) for our research proposals, play a "game" of sorts, and spend any remaining time contemplating the meaning of life.

Reminders
Do all the things!
We are back on for GDDs and continuing with Discovery Blogs.
Remember, Discovery Blogs should be focused on your specific AoI that you will research and write about for the second half of the semester.
Registration cometh!
If you need to meet with your academic advisor, you need to try and schedule an appointment ASAP. They will be booking up soon.
Today
Defining your AoI
Today's daily writing will ask you to answer the following questions regarding your AoI, which is what you are discussing for your Research Proposal and in your Discovery Blogs.
Go ahead and open a Google .doc and respond the the prompts below. I will give you rough 10 minutes to complete this response. Try to be as detailed and specific as you can with your answers.
Prompts
Provide a brief overview of the topic that you are proposing? What aspect of this topic do you find the most interesting?
In what ways could this topic be viewed as controversial, powerful, unique, and/or relevant? In other words, why would people be interested in knowing more about this subject?
What specific audiences can you identify that would like to know more about this?
Musical Chairs
Now, let's get to work...
Leave your bags and personal belongings at your own computer. Stand up. Move as directed.
Once you are at a new computer, please do the following:
Read the post from the original author. Move one line down in the document and write your own name.
After your name, please engage in discussion with the ideas the original author introduced in his/her writing.
What questions do you have for the author, based on your understanding of their AoI and the Research Proposal?
Can you make any suggestions to help them focus or direct their research?
What other perspectives or possible audiences could they look for?
When the music ends, please move to the next computer and repeat this process.
When Musical Chairs is over, please return to your original desk, review the commentary you received from your classmates, and spend 5-10 minutes brainstorming for your Research Proposal.
