Lots of things to discuss today. You will be formally introduced to a new assignment (sort of), begin the process of identifying a focused area of interest for the second half of the semester, and spend a little time work-shopping your ongoing Discovery Blog posts using the feedback you received from your colleague on Tuesday. Have fuuuuun!

Drafting + revision + drafting + revision + drafting + revision...

Reminders

  • You are in process on your third rounds of the GDD and the Discovery Blog.

  • If you have questions, or would like to chat about either of these sequences, PLEASE come see me during office hours!

  • You can also ask a colleague, visit the CASA, etc.

Today

  • The Midterm Portfolio (due Friday, Oct. 12th)

  • This is the method by which you will "submit" your assignments for the first half of the semester for grading.

  • Check our your syllabus for the grade details/percentages.

  • The Reflective Overview

  • This is technically the only "new" piece of writing that you will be creating for your Portfolio.

  • There is a template posted on BB that gives your very detailed directions on how to complete your reflection.

  • Please read all of the template prior to assembling your reflection

  • Evidence

  • This is where you Writing Folders on Google Drive should come in handy. All evidence that you reference within your Reflection should be linked to an actual copy/picture/etc.

  • This can easily be accomplished by using your saved materials (located in Google Drive) from the first half of the semester.

  • The beginning...

  • Go ahead and move this document to your Google Drive.

  • Pick an SLO from the list and begin drafting a *rough* response to that section of the template.

  • What does this SLO mean?

  • How have you worked towards mastering this SLO so far...?

  • What different pieces of evidence can you reference to "prove" this process to your audience?

  • Shifting the Discovery Blog

  • After this week's Discovery Blog is complete, you will shift the focus of your research.

  • Some of you may not need to, but we will still discuss this as a class.

  • The second half of the semester will focus on the Genres and Intersections (G&I) Assignment sequence. To facilitate your completion of this project, you will begin using your Discover Blog as a brainstorming/research space.

  • The structure/description of the Discovery Blogs will not change.

  • Instead, you will shift the subject that you are researching to a more focused area of interest that you will write about for your G&I project.

  • Next week, we will introduce the Research Proposal that will "connect" your research from your Discovery Blogs to your G&I project.

  • Don't panic if you don't understand how all these pieces fit together. That is normal, we are only just beginning the process.

  • Writing Workshop

  • Using your Peer Review from Tuesday, please spend the remaining portion of today's class working on revising your current Discovery Blogs.

  • Including the blog that is due on Sunday, you should have 3 total blogs to work with.

Homework

  • Reading

  • NWWK TC 2.6 (p.44-46)

  • NWWK TC 3.2 (p.52-54)

  • "Framework for Information Literacy" Scholarship as a Conversation (p. 8)

  • GDD #3 is due on Friday, September 21st.

  • Discovery Blog is due on Sunday, September 23rd.

  • Midterm Portfolio o is due on Friday, October 12th @ 11:59 PM.
