Let's go ahead and review the descriptions for two of the major sequences that you will be completing for me this semester.

Getting to the bus stop...

Reminders

  • Weather Channel Moment

  • As of now, there is a large-ish storm that is projected to head our direction. It is not a hurricane, but it has the potential to dump a lot of rain on CC over the next few days.

  • Keep an eye on the forecast.

  • Pay attention to the university's emergency alerts.

  • This is how you will know if class is cancelled or not.

  • Be safe. Don't drive if the water on the roads is questionable.

  • This month is Hispanic Heritage Month at TAMUCC. Check on the list of events here.

  • There are a good variety of things happening. I think there is a little something for everyone.

Today

  • Checking in...

  • How are things going with WP #1?

  • Any questions or interesting observations?

  • What's your "process" for the work you have done thus far?

  • Major Seminar Sequences

  • Show and Tell

  • Starting next week on Tuesday, you will begin your first round of S&T presentations.

  • These are individual presentations that will be based on an assigned topic. You will present for 3-5 minutes on your topic.

  • Everyone must be ready to present on the assigned day. All written elements must be turned in on the assigned day.

  • In many instances, there will be a written or visual element that you must include in these presentations.

  • If you miss your presentation, you cannot make it up without a documented medical excuse.

  • S&T #1: How do you handle stress?

  • One of the major obstacles that all freshmen must overcome is the stress associated with being a student. Consider the prompts below as you draft your presentation:

  • What are the things going on in your life that currently are causing you stress?

  • Now, try and consider methods of helping yourself cope with these stressors. What could you do to prevent these stressors? How have you typically managed your stress in the past?

  • What activities could you engage in here, in Corpus Christi to navigate your stress?

  • Group Up (Time Permitting)

  • Each group is responsible for summarizing the readings assigned below. Pretend you are speaking to someone who hasn't completed the reading before and do you best offer an explanation of what the reading discusses.

  • While most of your response will be summary or paraphrase, feel free to include direct quotes if you find they are significant. Don't forget to include appropriate citation.

  • Group 1: NWWK 1.0

  • Group 2: NWWK 1.2

  • Group 3: NWWK 2.0

  • Group 4: NWWK 3.3

  • What do you think of these readings? How do they impact your understanding of reading/writing/knowledge creation?

Homework

  • If we have not completed our discussion of NWWK by the end of today's class, we will finalize it on Thursday. Make sure that you are ready to discuss with your colleagues.

  • WP #1 is due on Thursday, according to Professor Mascorro's plans.

  • Make sure you know when and where to submit your work!

  • S&T #1 presentations on September 18th.

  • If you have any questions about the assignment, please ask in class or drop by to discuss it with me during office hours.
