Good morning, everyone. Today we will start with discussion on our assigned readings move forward. Your in-class writing will connect to the idea of authority which stems from your "Frameworks" reading. The final steps for the class will be to review some Discovery Blogs and take a look at GDDs that are currently in-process.

Reminders

  • Weather Channel Moment

  • As of now, there is a large-ish storm that is projected to head our direction. It is not a hurricane, but it has the potential to dump a lot of rain on CC over the next few days.

  • Keep an eye on the forecast.

  • Pay attention to the university's emergency alerts.

  • This is how you will know if class is cancelled or not.

  • Be safe. Don't drive if the water on the roads is questionable.

  • You should be finalizing your GDD and Discovery Blogs from last Sunday.

  • Make sure that the links are submitted in the right spot! As of now, there appear to be quite a few "missing" links.

  • This month is Hispanic Heritage Month at TAMUCC. Check on the list of events here.

  • There are a good variety of things happening. I think there is a little something for everyone.

  • Responding to the Reading (NWWK 3.0)

  • Review your assigned paragraph and create a short summary or blurb that you can share with the class.

  • Making Connections (Authority)

  • Let's take a real world example: Beyonce.

  • First, why are we connecting music with writing?

  • What situation do we most commonly associate Beyonce?

  • Why?

  • Would you argue that she is or is not an authority in this space?

  • In her album, Lemonade, Beyonce has several songs that could be viewed as outside of her standard

  • Daddy Lessons (performed at the CMAs): resulted in a bit of push-back from they audience and conservative commentators.

  • How did Beyonce attempt to establish her authority in her performance of this song?

  • Why do you think her authority was challenged by viewers?

  • Formation (excerpt from Video Album)

  • In what ways did Beyonce attempt to establish herself as an authority in this video? Consider not just the lyrics/music but the imagery, too.

  • Was she successful?

  • How was she challenged?

Homework
