Things are happening! We are going to handle our first you-know-what, and then move on to discussing your History readings, and finally a bit of pregaming for an activity that you will complete next week for Dr. Wooster and myself. Ready?

Be the wheel not the dwarf hampster.

Reminders

  • Don't forget about your History Quiz and your Bluebooks. Both of these grades are pending.

  • What are the deadlines?

  • Reading Quiz #1

  • RQ1 will be happening this Wednesday. You will be quizzed over reading 1.3: "Representing the Portrayal of Pilgrims in Elementary School Textbooks" by Cecilia Parks.

  • You may not use your notes on this quiz. It will only cover the material from this reading.

Today

  • Let's take care of one thing...

  • Go ahead and get out your technology. Laptops or cell phones are acceptable.

  • History + Writing/Rhetoric (W/R)

  • Let's take a look at the readings you had to complete for history today.

  • What can you tell me about the primary source document? What about your AEUSH reading?

  • Think NWWK: How do these two texts inform one another? In other words, how does information from one text help you understand or "complicate" information from the other?

  • Based on the AEUSH reading, why do historians find writings like Frethorne's of particular value?

  • And then...

  • What is Frethorne trying to use his writing to do?

  • What historical context is necessary to help understand the degree of emotion connected to the letter?

  • Finding your Faculty

  • Consider this a pregaming activity for an assignment that you will complete NEXT WEEK.

  • You are going to visit Dr. Wooster. Yes, it is required. No, you can't just talk to him in lecture.

  • To make sure that you aren't going in unarmed, we are going to draft some questions for your group (I said group 3-4 people per visit) to ask.

  • Autobots, assemble!

  • Let's pull up a Google doc. Think about your situation. Who is your audience? What should these questions be accomplishing?

Homework

  • Make sure that you have reviewed both your lecture notes and all assigned readings from the start of this semester.

  • It will be difficult for you to contribute to quiz review if you haven't done this.
