Today we will begin with your group presentations and answer any questions you have regarding campus resources. Time permitting, we will spend some time discussing reading strategies and reading assignments from your textbooks.

Presentations for everyone!

Reminders

  • Socialization!

  • Fall 2018 Convocation is happening on Friday at 3:00 PM in Island Hall Gym. Other new and varied events happening on campus can be found here.

  • Anything else that I should add to this list?

  • Do you have anything to share with the class or remind us all about?

Today

  • Exploring your University

  • The websites that were assigned on Thursday's class plans are as follows:

  • Group A

  • Group B

  • Group C

  • Group D

  • Reading Strategies (Autobots, assemble!)

  • Go ahead and get into small groups of three or four students.

  • I would encourage you to mix and match with different students than you worked with previously. Make sure that you have all introduced yourselves.

  • Spend some time discussing the following questions:

  • What types of reading have you been asked to complete thus far this semester?

  • In what ways are these readings similar and/or different?

  • How have you approached these readings? Have you been completing them or not? Do you comprehend them or not? To what degree...?

  • What strategies have you used to help improve your reading ability?

  • ??

  • ??

  • ??

  • LCZ Chat

  • You have heard about your first Writing Project for Writing and Rhetoric.

  • Without referencing the assignment description, what can you tell me about it?

  • Let's review the document.

  • As a class, we will use writing (and Google Drive) to create a list of questions, comments, and concerns you might still have about this assignment.

Homework

  • Review the descriptions for both WP1 and your Midterm Portfolio. You can find them linked to Professor Mascorro's site.

  • These are ongoing projects that will require considerable time devoted to both reading and writing.
