Good morning, all. Welcome back! Let's spend some time sorting out areas of interest (AOIs) for future discussions/blogs. We will also review your websites and tackle important questions regarding audience and purpose.

Pictured above: How not to engage in the peer review/feedback process.
Reminders
You should be in-process on the editing/fine-tuning of your websites. You will be starting on your Discovery Blogs this week, so we will move forward with drafting and publication.
Discovery Blogs will be due weekly, starting with a blog publication for this Sunday, September 9th.
Socialization
Fall 2018 Convocation is happening on Friday at 3:00 PM in Island Hall Gym. Other new and varied events happening on campus can be found here.
Today
AOIs: Pick a card, any card.
As mentioned previously, you will be self-directing in regards to research. This means that I will not be giving your specific topics, but instead providing you with specific tasks. Your Discovery Blog is an example of this.
Spend the next 10-15 minutes using writing to build up a catalogue of interests. Don't over think your responses. Just get information on the screen.
What are you interested in?
What are you passionate about?
What pisses you off?
What are you interested in researching this semester?
You are not limited or confined by these choices. This is just a starting point in your research process. Should you feel the urge to revise this list, feel free!
Coffee Talk
Please make sure that you have submitted a link to your website at the appropriate BB location.
Assignments>Discovery Blog>Website Links>Website Links.
Your website should be "live" for your classmates and I to see.
Q&A
How was this process for you? What "choices" did you have to make as an author? (Did you even think of yourself as an author?)
What were the "goods" and the "bads" you experienced?
Website Review (Autobots, assemble!)
You should gather in groups of four(?) and make sure that you have at least one central computer to share with your group members. You will be reviewing websites.
As you work, make sure you focus on providing feedback. Feedback can be designed to promote change or praise success.
Feedback should never punish or criticize. #noredpens
Website Design: Using writing to do...
What is the purpose of this blog and does your design/writing "match" that purpose to some degree?
(Does your current audience agree?)
Who are your intended audiences?
You have your professor and your classmates, but since the blog will be public, what other folks might stumble across your work? The internet is a big place, and depending on the things that you choose to research, you might attract other people.
How does this blog represent you and your purpose to your prospective audiences?
(Does your current audience agree?)
Keep in mind that this blog is one of the ways that you are "using writing" to do something. Does your current work help you achieve that goal?
(Does your current audience agree?)

Reading
NWWK Threshold Concept: 2.0 p. 35-37
Bickmore's "Genre in the Wild: Understanding Genre Within Rhetorical (Ecosystems)"
Specifically, sections: "What is a genre?" & "How do people learn about genres within particular settings?"
Preparation for Thursday...
The majority of Thursday's class will be spent focusing on the readings that you have been assigned thus far during the semester. This means that you need to be caught up with all assigned readings prior to attending.
