Welcome back! We have all almost officially survived our first week of classes. Bring on the three day weekend! That's right, classes will not meet on Monday, but the regular schedule will resume on Tuesday, September 4th. Today, we will do a quick overview of Blackboard, so I can answer any questions you might have, discuss pet peeves, and review campus resources/groups that might be of interest to you all.

Reminders
For additional "social" information and reminders, feel free to check out WOW website.
We have the Ice Cream Social and the Tailgate happening tomorrow. If you want to drop by my office, I am located in FC 128.
Today
Morning Cup of No (10 minutes)
This is an example of a daily writing. Daily writings are usually short and do not allow time for you to revise, so I do not expect you to submit a perfect or polished draft.
In other words, a few spelling or grammatical mistakes will not impact your grade. Just spend the entire time writing and answering the question to the best of your ability. We will discuss your answers as a class.
Q1: As a reader/writer, identify one of your biggest pet peeves about reading/writing.
This could be something you do in your own work, that you find yourself constantly critiquing. This could be something that other authors do that you hate to see in books or film or music.
What is something that really, really frustrates you when you see it in film or media?
You will submit this to BB, by using either a Word .doc or a link to Google Drive.
Exploring your University
Each group will be assigned a website to explore. Your group will create a small, informative presentation to share with the class. This presentation should do the following:
Introduce the Resource
Summarize *some* of the content available through the site.
Provide specific information that might be useful to your colleagues in this course.
What additional information might someone need to successfully navigate/utilize this website?
I will number you off into groups. Each group will be provided a specific website.
Homework
Stay up to date with your reading for 1302. If you do not have your Naming What We Know text, be sure that you have made alternative arrangements to access the reading you are assigned for homework.
The readings from this text are a bit abstract in nature, and as such you might need to review them several times. Use your reading strategies and note-taking skills to your advantage as you work with this material.
