"Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome. Come on in." Let's do this. Today we are introducing the course website and Blackboard addition and starting with some of our very first writing of the semester. Be prepared to work today.

Perspective is important. (Spelling is also important.)
Reminders
Are you in the right space?!
12:00- UCCP 1101. 246
Anyone else...you are lost. Commence panic.
Wednesday's class will meet in OCNR 242. This is a computer lab. We will use the start of class to complete a brief survey, but after that we will continue with our regular schedule.
I will not read the syllabus to you. My expectation is that you review this document outside of our class and are familiar with the policies therein.
If you do not do this, it will come back to haunt you. This is not like an iTunes update. You need to know what you are agreeing to as a student in this course.

Today
Icebreaker. Let's rip this bandaid off, shall we?
Stand up. Say your preferred name. Say one interesting thing about yourself that isn't your major. We will all feel slightly awkward together, and that my colleagues, is team building.
Welcome to Learning Community E (LC E)
History: NOT taught by a coach!
Writing and Rhetoric: You can study writing?
Seminar: Academic peanut butter...holding it all together
Website, Blackboard, and Google Drive
The class plans will be available on this website. They will stay available for the entire semester. If you are going to miss class...CHECK THE PLANS!
You can also access the website through BB.
Blackboard will contain major assignment descriptions, random online daily work activities, etc. It is important that you access BB regularly.
Your average will be available to you on BB throughout the entire semester. If you have a question or are uncertain about anything, it is your responsibility to act.
Google Drive
You will be using this primarily for your Writing and Rhetoric course, but I will make references to it from time to time in Seminar.
Homework
First-Year Selfie
Take a selfie of yourself and insert it into a Word document. You should then answer the following questions on the same document. Your responses to questions 2 and 3 should be a bit more substantive than the first question. Remember, you are trying to provide me with valuable information about you, so this means evidence and explanations are expected.
Q1: What is your preferred name? If you have a nickname or like to go by your middle name...whatever...just make a note of it.
Q2: What skills are you most confident about as a student? Are you a great writer or public speaker? Can you note-take with the best of them #colorcodeordie? What are you bringing to the table?
Q3: What are you most concerned about as your transition into your first semester? This could be something academic or a bit more personal. How do you plan to conquer those fears?
For submission purposes, you can do this on a standard Word doc. and submit it to BB, or you can create this in Google Drive and submit a shared link to BB.
I don't really care which method you choose, but understand that you will need to work with Google docs eventually.
Blue books!
You will need to purchase three blue books and submit them to me for a grade. Usually you have a couple weeks to accomplish this task, but the *always* sell out quickly, so I would advise you to take care of this ASAP!
Blue books should be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 19th.
