Hello, all. Welcome to your second day of classes. My name is Amanda Hartman, and I will be your seminar instructor. If you are a student taking courses with Study Group, I will also be your academic advisor. Today I will provide an overview of the Learning Community, and you will introduce yourselves to me.

Reminders
This is UCCP 1101.941 are you in the right place?
Today
What is a Learning Community?
Seminar: You are here!
Writing and Rhetoric: You will be here.
0039: *Some* of you will be here.
Using Blackboard and Google Drive
Professor Mascorro will use Google for a variety of things. Her class plans and the majority of her 1302 and 0399 content will be accessible through Google.
If you have questions about accessing these materials or plans, please reach out and ask questions. Both she and I are happy to assist you in making sense of this structure.
Content for my course will be available primarily through Blackboard.
You can access my syllabus, class plans, and your grade book through BB.
Let's take a look...
Breakout Session: Q&A
Spend some time in your group creating a list of questions that you have for me. These questions can be about the class, the university, the city...whatever.
Each group should have at least five questions on their list.
Let's discuss.
Homework
First-Year Selfie
Take a selfie of yourself and insert it into a Word document. You should then answer the following questions on the same document. Your responses to questions 2 and 3 should be a bit more substantive than the first question. Remember, you are trying to provide me with valuable information about you, so this means evidence and explanations are expected.
Q1: What is your preferred name? If you have a nickname or like to go by your middle name...whatever...just make a note of it.
Q2: What skills are you most confident about as a student? Are you a great writer or public speaker? Can you note-take with the best of them #colorcodeordie? What are you bringing to the table?
Q3: What are you most concerned about as your transition into your first semester? This could be something academic or a bit more personal. How do you plan to conquer those fears?
For submission purposes, you can do this on a standard Word doc. and submit it to BB, or you can create this in Google Drive and submit a shared link to BB.
I don't really care which method you choose, but understand that you will need to work with Google docs eventually.
